Acting Senior Sergeant Simon Grant is the manager for Road Policing and Community Safety for the Western Division 4 and is responsible for the Northern Grampians and Horsham Highway Patrol.
He said despite a reasonably quiet Queen's Birthday long weekend the same issues continue to arise on the roads.
The Fatal Five, which are the most common causes of road fatalities in Victoria include speed, alcohol and illicit drugs, distraction, seatbelts and fatigue.
Distraction was the cause of a serious collision in Sheep Hills on the Friday of the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend.

"That incident was the result of driver distraction," Act Snr Sgt Grant said.
"What the public are hearing is the police bang on about the same things over and over again and it's becoming white noise.
"Seeing the police out in high numbers and visible is our best bet, but how are we going to get the message across? That's the next challenge."
The community safety manager said the volume of accidents is taking a toll on emergency services volunteers.
"I'm sick of turning up to serious injury and fatal collisions," he said.
"It affects so many people, not only those involved in the collision but those who respond to the collision as well. Some of the collisions are really horrific," he said.
The 2021 road toll in Victoria is 104.
