The YouGov poll, conducted on behalf of the Australian Conservation Foundation, found 64 per cent of respondents in the Wannon electorate wanted more action on climate change, compared with a 67 per cent average nation-wide.

The survey also found 75 per cent of Wannon voters believed greater climate action would help nature and wildlife survive extreme weather, and 69 per cent believed fossil fuels should not be a part of Australia's energy future.

A further 63 per cent of respondents said climate policy would influence their voting at the next federal election.

Australian Conservation Foundation chief executive Kelly O'Shanassey said the results disproved the belief Australia's views on climate change were divided by geography.

"Across the county, Australians are experiencing climate damage and demanding action for their elected representatives," she said.

"This poll reveals a groundswell of voters prioritising climate change as a key election issue in response to longer droughts and heatwaves, devastating bushfires and damaging floods.

"This poll shatters the myth that there's one view in the bush about climate change and another in the city."

The neighbouring division of Mallee also saw similar support for climate action, with 59 per cent of respondents in support of more to be done on climate change.

The survey also showed 69 per cent of Mallee participants didn't believe fossil fuels, such as coal and gas, should be a part of Australia's energy future.

One in five said it was their most important issue in the upcoming election.
