Lions club president Marie Hosking said there was some uncertainty to start with but the club wanted to put something on for the town.
"We haven't been able to get out much with COVID but we thought the lights was still something we could do this year," she said.
"It's so nice to get some normality back in the community. It's been too long, as everyone can understand. The Christmas lights is something safe people can enjoy around town and getting back out and about again.
"Because we haven't done anything for so long we've had to push ourselves to do things again and we think this is a great way to do that."
OTHER NEWS:
Ms Hosking said she hoped the lights would help the community find their Christmas cheer in the lead up to the festive season.
"Some people will be feeling hesitant and maybe feeling vulnerable in the community we're hoping by keeping something the same it makes people start to realise we can get back to normal," she said.
"It's a different time but hopefully this is the start of getting back on track."
Entry forms can be picked up from the Library and the Council offices and judging will be from December 14-19.
